What to Do in the Mountains if You Don’t Want to Ski or Snowboard

Winters might be the best time of the year to feel Tahoe’s mesmerizing mountain magic and of course you’d love to enjoy it with your entire family. Snowboarding and skiing might be the most popular activities among your family members to do at Lake Tahoe. But perhaps you are not into skiing or snowboarding at all. So what else does this dreamy place have to offer while others are tearing up the slopes?

Here are some non-skiing activities that you can partake in on your Lake Tahoe getaway:

Cable Car/Gondola Ride

Some of the best views of Lake Tahoe are undeniably at the top of the mountains and you can get the best of these spellbinding views by taking a cable car ride. Cable car and gondola rides rise 2000 ft. and drop off passengers at high camps or mid-way stations. You can bring your own picnic basket and buy snacks and drinks from a restaurant at the top. Find a desirable spot and take in the beauty of the stunning mountains and shining lake. Learn more here.

Snowmobile Tours

Snowmobile tours are one of the most popular non-ski adventures at Lake Tahoe. You can book private tours with picnics and cover lake view trails on different tours. You can even find miniature snowmobiles for kids to enjoy all the same. Learn more here.

Snowshoeing

You can either rent some or buys your own pair of snowshoes to better assess the beautiful trails around the lake even if there is a lot of snow on them.

Ice Skating

If you are not a snowboarding or skiing fan, you can always swap for ice skating at Lake Tahoe. You can find indoor rinks as well as outdoor ones that offer year-round ice skating. There are several outdoor rinks throughout Lake Tahoe resorts. Be it Heavenly Village Ice Rink or South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena, all facilities offer skate rentals.

Sledding

You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy sledding. It’s fun for everyone! Grab a couple sleds, bundle up and go outside to have some fun! Most ski resorts have designated sledding hills. You can also go out to National Forest or visit Adventure Mountain for the ultimate sledding experience.

Family Photoshoot

Document all the winter fun you’re having in the snow with a family photo session. Weather it’s a family vacation, a quick get-away or a holiday reunion - it’s worth documenting and remembering. Check out VILD Photography for the best photography experience.
