Robert spent his childhood on the mountain as a member of the Heavenly Valley Blue Angel race team. His background in ski racing is where his knowledge and love of the sport comes from. Deena, Robert’s wife is not only an avid skier but is also involved in promoting South Lake Tahoe as a beautiful family destination. This love of skiing and the area is reflected in their business making Rock House Ski & Snowboard Rentals the friendliest shop in town.
HISTORY OF THE ROCK HOUSE
Construction on the Rock House was started in the late 1930’s and completed in June of 1941. In 1961 it was purchased by the Cole Family, who still own it today. Hal Cole Sr. and his wife Carmen raised their two boys, Robert and Hal Jr. in this house and Hal Sr. ran a television repair shop where the ski rental shop is today.
In the late 80’s with the boys grown and grand kids coming fast, Carmen and Hal moved to a larger home in the Tahoe Keys. The Rock House and the shop were then rented out. In 2009, Robert and his wife Deena returned to the area from living in Nashville, Tennessee. “We always loved the idea of running the ski rental shop but the timing was never right… until now,” said Deena. With little time, they jumped in and the 2009-2010 season was their first season running the ski rental shop. “The gear has changed, but everything else is the same. My life has come full circle,” said Robert. “Skiing was my first passion.”
Along with their two kids, and a couple of trusted employees, Robert and Deena run the Rock House Discount Ski and Snowboard Rental shop. “The Rock House is the ultimate owner operated business. Nobody cares more than we do about this business and about the whole south shore of Lake Tahoe. We’re very invested and we really care that our visitors have an amazing experience while they’re here.” ~Robert and Deena Cole
